Zillmere Festival
The Zillmere Multicultural Festival was on June 4th. Check out all the details at www.zillfest.org.au
The festival is in its 10th year and promotes and shares the diversity and rich cultural backgrounds of the Zilmere community and its surrounding areas. Focus is placed upon interaction and experience in a free entry, family-friendly, one day only festival. Attendees were offered a wonderful array of food and craft stalls with many cultural groups exhibiting displays, workshops, crafts, demonstrations, song, dance and their traditional food. There was plenty of free activities and workshops for both children and adults alike, with local community groups and government agencies also providing information, displays and their own activities.
As part of this years festival 30 young people from Brisbane north worked with Contact Inc to develop skills in dance and music over 11 weeks. A partnership with Contact Inc, Jabiru REspec, Brisbane City Council, Zillmere PCYC and Zillmere YACCA, the Breaking Ground Program culminated in a huge performance at the Zillmere Festival. The performance showcased the creative talent of young people involved in the workshop process and the skills developed as a collective over the 11 weeks.
