A new piece of artwork emerging from Brisbane’s inner-city is “2 Degrees” – named to express the close networks of people within Brisbane and how collaborative projects often highlight “who knows who” in Brisbane.

One of the zine’s contributors, Angelica, said the zine kicked off to a good start and has a lot of potential.

“It’s a really good platform for people who just want to get something out there. it’s great to be able to contribute something small to something larger than I could create on my own,” Angelica said.

A number of contributors joined Visible Ink Valley tenants and staff to celebrate the creation of the zine, which has been developed over the past 9 weeks on Wednesday afternoons in the VIV Zine hub.

“I think it’s important for people to be creating something in Brisbane, no matter how small – even if it’s just a post-it notes worth of an article. It’s important for young people to contribute to and have a say in Brisbane culture as it develops,” Angelica said.

You can come in to Visible Ink Valley and grab a copy, read the zine online and check out pictures from the launch below.

If you’re interested in contributing you can find out more about the Zine Hub here.

Hungry-Beast

You might have been watching ABC on Wednesday night. You might have seen Hungry Beast. You might have even seen a familiar meeting rom that might have been the location for for the Viewer Video of the Week brought to you by the Animation Monkeys and James Challice at Fade In Production.

I could waffle on about the animation (it is slick), script & story (awesome) and direction (a lot of fun) but probably best you just watch the thing and let it do it’s speaking for itself.

Hit this link to the Hungry Beast Website and leave them a comment, expressions of appreciation etc…

Creative Professionals Unite Brisbane Presents Andy Monks

CPUB_Andy_Monk_ImageThe first ever Creative Professionals Unite Brisbane night is in the theme of Animation, Illustration, and Design and it’s going to be awesome!

We are kicking things off in line with National Youth Week with an interactive, content packed night with a talk from Academy Award winning Illustrator and Animator, Andy Monks. Even if you’re not an illustrator or designer, this event will be a lot of fun and a chance to hear from an amazing artist and meet your fellow creative friends.

Andy Monks is an Australian based freelance Illustrator who has worked for many major entertainment and animation houses internationally and locally including Animal Logic. Clients have included Disney, Warner Bros and Village Roadshow. He has also worked on advertising for Coca-Cola, Kellogg’s and music clips for band’s like Silverchair. Zine_cropVisible Ink Valley has a Zine Library, collecting the works of Brisbane’s young Zine Makers and putting them out in the space for people to copy, read & take away. Now we’re taking the next step on from having a library; a place for young creatives to gather and make Zines to put in it!

Opening Wednesday March 24th and every Wednesday in April & May between 2pm & 5pm, there will be workshops in making Zines with local artist Angela Wijangco. ‘Making’ meaning any kind of creative practise that can be put down on a piece of paper (scissors, glue, Photoshop, stencils, photocopiers, cameras, screen printing…).

The workshops are working towards the publication of a collaborative Zine to add to the Vis Ink and put out to the wide world.

The Zine Hub will be open Monday through Thursday between 12pm & 5pm for young creative people to use!

If this sounds like something you’re interested in, contact Visible Ink by phone, email or drop by in person and have a chat with Visible Ink staff. If it sounds like something someone you know might be interested, let them know. Spread the word.
