The Zillmere Multicultural Festival was on June 4th. Check out all the details at www.zillfest.org.au
The festival is in its 10th year and promotes and shares the diversity and rich cultural backgrounds of the Zilmere community and its surrounding areas. Focus is placed upon interaction and experience in a free entry, family-friendly, one day only festival. Attendees were offered a wonderful array of food and craft stalls with many cultural groups exhibiting displays, workshops, crafts, demonstrations, song, dance and their traditional food. There was plenty of free activities and workshops for both children and adults alike, with local community groups and government agencies also providing information, displays and their own activities.
As part of this years festival 30 young people from Brisbane north worked with Contact Inc to develop skills in dance and music over 11 weeks. A partnership with Contact Inc, Jabiru REspec, Brisbane City Council, Zillmere PCYC and Zillmere YACCA, the Breaking Ground Program culminated in a huge performance at the Zillmere Festival. The performance showcased the creative talent of young people involved in the workshop process and the skills developed as a collective over the 11 weeks.

Fête de la Musique is the largest international live music event in the world, held in 450 cities across the globe on the very same day each year – June 21 –developed by the French Government in 1982. The aim of the event is to make music everywhere, to celebrate music and to expose as many people to music as possible.
An International Charter is the common link for more than 110 countries who participate in this music event. Musicians and venues donate their time for free, supported by a small army of volunteers, all in the spirit of making and celebrating music.
Now in its fourth year, Fête de la Musique Brisbane provides a performance platform for all people who love making music: whether a professional musician who has been playing for years or an aspiring performer who is looking for a chance to try out their skills.
So how does it work? Musicians and venues register to be involved on the website. The website then helps them to find each other, similar to an online dating service. People can also organise their own event and register it online as part of the festival.
