On April 13th 2012, we’ll be taking over the Queen St Mall in the city from 3-9pm. The great folks at Brisbane Marketing have kindly given us 3 stages, a massive LED screen and a whole lot of space to showcase the talents and diversity of young people in Brisbane.

- people to help us design and set up the mall
- people to help us promote the event and make sure we get as many people as possible turning up
- people to help on the day looking after bands, artists etc
We’d love you to join our volunteer team and meet every 2 weeks to get this event underway.

Freelance Theatre Maker
Finn is a writer- plays, poetry, short films. She acts, directs and does little drawings and paintings when no one is looking.
Finn recently attended the CONTACT ACADEMY: A series of workshops hosted by CONTACT INC for young emerging artists to grow their skills. We asked Finn a couple of questions.
Why did you come to the contact academy – what were you hoping to gain?
I came to Contact Academy to meet new people to work with – I have just moved from Darwin, and am keen to find motivated and talented people!
I also thought it would be a fantastic way to get to know companies – what they are about, who they are interested in working with, what kind of art they make. I had a fantastic time. Contact Inc did a wonderful job!
What is your arts practice interest and what would you like to be doing with it in Brisbane?
I am a writer- plays, poetry, short films. I also act and direct, and do little drawings and paintings when no one is looking.
In Brisbane, I would love to get involved in regular readings of plays and poetry, and of course production! I am interested in physical Theatre, and devised collaborative work. I am excited by innovative use of media, and finding ways to make magic happen on stage.

In response to Council’s photographic competition for high school students to capture amazing images of Brisbane’s natural environment, the Green Heart Schools team hosted an exhibition and awards night for the finalists. The entries were top quality and the judges had their work cut out for them choosing an overall winner.
The Visible ink team went along to check out the talent and were impressed with all entrants. The skill and creativity of the entrants was inspiring and highlighted not only the natural beauty of our city, but also the passion that young people have for sharing this beauty with others.

Applications for Inspiration/ Motivation/ Activation Conference (leadership, change, social enterprise) closes Friday 1st July…get writing.
DAY 1: What does it mean to be political in 2011? With exciting keynotes by Rick Newnham (co-founder of Left/Right Think Tank) and Amanda Templeton (Media Advisor behind Wyatt Roy’s election campaign), we delve into how politics is moving away from traditional left/right thinking as people become more aware of individual issues and the effect that social media has on how people choose to connect with these issues.
DAY 2: How do I make a difference? Often the idea of creating change seems like a bigger task than we’re capable of. Keynotes and debates include Lucinda Hartley (founder of Co Design), Ehon Chan (serial social entrepreneur and creative director of Spur foundation), Catherine Williams (volunteering Queensland) and Adrian Larsen (founder of Flood-Aid).
DAY 3: After two days of inspiring keynotes, workshops and discussion we dive head first into how to take action. Ideas and visions are fantastic, but unless they’re backed up by sustainable, measurable and realistic structures, they will remain just that. Day three is a toolbox to provide skills, knowledge and capabilities required in order to create meaningful action. In addition to a wealth of workshops of learning sessions, Ellen Sandell, National Director of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition will share her knowledge of sustainability within organisations.
